Gawk was written by Paul Rubin, and finished by Paul Finlason and
Richard Stallman.

David Trueman and Arnold Robbins took it over, with David doing most
of the work to make it compatible with new awk.

In the fall of 1993, Arnold Robbins took over maintenance.

The MinRX regular expression engine was written by Mike Haertel.
It was first released with Gawk in 2025.

See the README file for the list of maintainers for non-POSIX systems,
and the `Major Contributors to gawk' section of the manual (doc/gawk.texi)
for a larger list of people who have contributed.
